This picture says so much to me about the Pagan way of life. The stones look old, maybe even ancient, like many of the foundations of various sects of Paganism. The cobblestone street looks like a fun place to stroll and mingle, with open shutter windows welcoming the passerby to stop and chat, just like the open and welcoming nature of most Pagan practices. At the same time that covered alley looks safe and warm, it looks as though it would be nice to take shelter from a storm in, such as the deluge of advice, rights and wrongs, teachings and books upon books upon books upon books you may encounter once you are a a part of an open Pagan community.
Paganism tends to be a very windy road, with switch-backs showing up as often as seemingly insurmountable hills and deep dark valleys. As someone new to the world of Pagan faiths you may hear advice from a metaphysical shop owner, who may say so and so's book is the best and you should read that for all your information. Upon venturing out to a Pagan event, a festival or get-together, someone else who is leading that group may say to you, "oh, no no no, read this instead, that author doesn't know what they're talking about"! All this can be more than confusing. So where do you turn? Who do you trust? What books should you read?
That isn't an easy answer of course, otherwise you wouldn't have to ask it. The answer lies within your own comfort level, your own desires and your own spirit.
If you were not born into a family who practices a Pagan path, then you probably came to it through exploration, or maybe you felt a calling to it. However you did, you took the first steps to try and learn about it. So follow your own lead. If someone tells you a book isn't correct, or isn't the right one to read - be sure to at least read the description of it, try to find out a bit about the author; does the book sound like something you might like to read, does the author's background make you feel comfortable? Then go ahead and read away! Same goes for attending events, or taking local classes. Follow your spirit to what feels right. If you feel uncomfortable, put the book down, or leave the event. When in doubt, meditate on questions and ask for answers. If you have a spirit guide you could ask to be shown the right course of action, or ask to have your decisions confirmed.
There are so many ways that are right, and so many ways that aren't wrong! The reality is, Paganism is a path of the spirit and as such is different to each and every person. It is a very individual religion, and yet loves it's gatherings of like minded folk.
On this site I'll be discussing some of the aspects of my journey on the path of the Hereditary Strega. It may not be the path of a Strega you have heard before, and yet some of it may sound very familiar. My goal is to teach, to commune with you, to maybe even entertain! I'd like to learn from you as well, and that will happen in the form of comments and questions and answers. I may begin a topic in one post, only to jump to something else n the next, but rest assured, I won't leave any incomplete as much as I am able.
In addition to this blog page, you'll find The Shining Light page. On there we will delve into meditations, both guided and topical, and light virtual candles for not only our meditations, but for energies and prayers to go out to others.
My next post will begin with some stories about the Treguendas and what they are, starting with the first of the year, Festa dei Morti.
